Take every Opportunity

I was getting some lumber at Home Depot and needed some of it cut smaller. Besides the convenience of them cutting the lumber, it gives a great opportunity to witness to someone who cannot leave you for a few minutes. Al came to assist me. His accent said “Islands” so I asked Al which island he was from and he said Cape Verde. I said I had stopped there once but never got to see much. Thinking that was enough to start the conversation, I asked – “If you were to die today would you go to heaven or hell?

Al - "I’d go to heaven because I know Gods Word.

“That's good but if you were asked at the gates of heaven. Why should God let you in what would you say?

Al – “I’ve kept the Ten Commandments

“How many lies have you told?

Al - Only white lies

“God sees all lies as lies and its sin

Then I gave him the courtroom example and of course right then, he got a page to go help someone else. Al told them he was busy with a customer and he'd be there soon- he wanted to hear more. He understood the example of the courtroom and Jesus and how not only did Jesus pay the price that he could not pay, but that Al must accept the payment that was made for him. If he did then the judge could legally let him go free because his fine was paid. But it required Al to accept that gift, not just to know about it.

Al said it makes sense. I told him he needs to repent and put his faith in what Jesus did on the cross. He promised to read the good person tract and really think about it.

The Buck Stops....Where??

I got an article about a poll of America's young people from a dear friend.  His concern is shared by many people I know.  Reading through the piece was disturbing to me, even though as a daily evangelist I have spoken to many of these people.  The article has no guidelines to define what a Biblical Christian is, which makes some of the answers/problems more obvious.  When I finished reading I remembered something that I saw last week from David Barton over at Wallbuilders.

- Understanding the role of clergy and the pulpit, the Rev. Charles Finney (a leading figure of the national revival known as the Second Great Awakening) reminded the ministers in his day of their historic influence in these areas:

Brethren, our preaching will bear its legitimate fruits. If immorality prevails in the land, the fault is ours in a great degree. If there is a decay of conscience, the pulpit is responsible for it. If the public press lacks moral discrimination, the pulpit is responsible for it. If the church is degenerate and worldly, the pulpit is responsible for it. If the world loses its interest in religion, the pulpit is responsible for it. If Satan rules in our halls of legislation, the pulpit is responsible for it. If our politics become so corrupt that the very foundations of our government are ready to fall away, the pulpit is responsible for it. Let us not ignore this fact, my dear brethren; but let us lay it to heart, and be thoroughly awake to our responsibility in respect to the morals of this nation.

It is so important, especially as the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ draws ever-nearer, to pray for our pastor's and teachers.  As parent's we need to know what the youth Pastor is teaching-or not!  It truly matters.

He Is There!

When I saw this video on Ray Comfort's blog, I was reminded again how very grateful I am for people who share the Gospel.

Although we can't always see the result of sharing, we can ALWAYS be sure that God is faithful to finish what He starts.

Isaiah 55:10-11
"For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.

After Shock...

After the the long wait at the car repair place, I was welcomed with another incredible opportunity. They had told me it would be 2 hours or so. Well, it was like airline time and went on for 4 hours. As I was paying for the work, 3 of the guys who work there said I was the best customer they had there for many days, I was nice to them, did not get upset about the long wait and I should have my picture posted there as 'Customer of the Day'

I explained how just a few years ago, I would never had been that calm and complacent. That God changed me and gave me a new heart and attitude. I told them that it is my belief in Jesus Christ and what He did on the Cross that changed me. I had already given them tracts and then gave them a Gospel message again and how if they would repent and put their faith and trust in Jesus Christ they could have a new life and an eternal one.

Praise the Lord for His Power!

Shocking Story!!

I was waiting for my car to have some work done and was looking for that 'just right' opportunity to witness. I knew I had only to wait a few minutes – or I would make my own opportunity. Then there is was - a new customer came in who was really loud and he knew the guys at the counter. He was telling them how he had been shocked while at work with a couple hundred volts. Of course he already had a lawyer and they were going to sue all these people.

I let him go on a while and tolerated the foul language for a while - then I interrupted and said I was electrocuted thirty years earlier. That got his attention along with the four guys behind the counter, and I asked where he would have gone if he had died. I got the usual "I hope heaven". I said that I would not want to rely on hope but certainty. I explained he could know 100% and gave them million dollar bills. They must read the back of the tract and they would know if they were really going to Heaven. Then I said, “Please go to needGOD.com.”

A little while later the “shocked” guy sat near me and said the MDB was good. He even gets daily scripture sent to his phone. I said that's great but just get daily Scripture sent to his phone will not get him to heaven when he dies. I gave him a “Second Greatest Lie” book. He read a few pages and then slid it behind his back and changed chairs. God’s word will not return void!

Stay tuned…
